Are you ready to do it all over again? I hope so. Starting a 5,000 mile ride challenge from scratch on January 1st will seem daunting to some, but as someone once said, a bicycle ride around the world starts with a single pedal stroke.

Our monthly challenges are here to motivate and inspire you along the way. Designed to test different aspects of riding from discovery to distance, climbing to time in the saddle, the idea is that they help you along to the 5,000 mile total that right now is a long way off for everyone.

Find and ride a new road

A regular challenge at this time of year as many will find it difficult to get the big miles in throughout January. This challenge doesn't require hours in the saddle or high levels of fitness to get up a tough hill, but it will be hard for those who have been riding in their area for a long time.

This challenge of course needs to be done IRL (in real life) but we will accept bridleways for those out on their gravel bikes or mtbs. Be sure to tell us about the road you find, and how you found it by emailing us at cycling@futurenet.com (opens in new tab)

Ride 100 miles in a week

Not a massive distance, but it can be hard to do at this time of year when it's cold, wet and dark. You can do this in one ride, or seven, and we'll accept virtual miles as we know how many of you take your turbos at this time of year. And there's nothing wrong in that.
